About the Programme

Spatial Intelligence Data Science - SIDS (SP-210604)
NQF 5 – Credits 56

SIDS is an NQF Level 5 module with 56 Credits that runs over a full period of four months.

Spatial Intelligence Data Science is a fusion of several fields of study. Firstly, geospatial intelligence is concerned with the location analysis of features and extraction of related data. Data Science, on the other hand, is the application of a variety of analytical methodologies to discover hidden trends, improve predictive modelling and gain a competitive advantage by using geography as a connecting thread and spatial algorithms.

The purpose of this skills program is to introduce the basics of handling complicated problems utilizing analytical data and technology solutions. The qualification covers numerous topics including mathematics, statistics, computer science, and data collection, analysis and interpretation. This program will provide learners with the basic knowledge and technical skills needed to apply data science methodologies to geographic data, with a focus on resolving some key issues.

It is designed for someone who has little or no background on geodata science, it is a launchpad to the world of data science. The curriculum also prepares students for advanced certifications such as the GISc & IT diploma.  The skills programme is central in addressing the challenges and realising the opportunities we face in the country and it will have a key role in the ways that we improve poverty and quality of life outcomes. This skills program will contribute towards the implementation of the coherent District Development Model to improve service delivery in South Africa.

Advanced Spatial Intelligence Data Science - (SP-210603)
NQF 5 – Credits 40

ASIDS is an NQF Level 5 module with 40 Credits that runs over a full period of three months.

The Advanced Spatial Intelligence Data Scientist formulate quantitative models to answer scientific questions, obtain, clean, transform, and process raw data into usable formats using the programming language, organize and perform a complete data analysis, from exploration to analysis, synthesis and communication, and create data science products that can be used by a wide audience.

The purpose of this skills program is to strengthen geographic data science competency so enable one to make sense of and uncover relevant patterns in location data to help make better decisions. A data scientist’s job needs knowledge of a variety of technical fields, including computer science, analytics, mathematics, modelling, and statistics. It entails analysing large data sets for useful insights and then presenting those ideas to the executive team of an organisation. This skills program is designed to provide generally relevant research knowledge and exposure to geodata science approaches. For example, you can get the necessary abilities to take on more sophisticated geospatial science projects.
